Old Science to be Renamed

NORTHFIELD – Last Friday, the name of the new building being formed from Old Science was revealed: Tomson Hall. Named in honor of O. Jay Tomson ‘58 — the current chair of the St. Olaf Board of Regents — and his wife Patricia McCarthy Tomson ‘59, the building is set to house the six language departments and the Education department, in addition to administrative and service offices that were formerly housed in the administration complex, such as the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Admissions.

The naming of the building comes in honor of their $5 million gift to the college to help with the building’s reconstruction.

Mr. Tomson has served on the Board of Regents since 1995. He serves as Chairman of the Board of First Citizens National Bank in Mason City, Iowa, with branches in 10 North Iowa communities. Mrs. Tomson is the executive director of the First Citizens National Bank Charitable Foundation, an organization that focuses its efforts on funding charitable causes throughout northern Iowa.
